Situation

A global “Big Four” professional services firm operating across 150+ countries on a federated partnership model needed to unify 260,000 professionals onto a single SAP S/4HANA Finance operating model. The first attempt had stalled and lost credibility, costing nearly a year of timeline. The structural problem: the partnership model gives each country member firm equity and decision rights, and a single operating model challenged every cultural and structural instinct of how the firm runs.

Task

Tim led the workforce transition framework for the recovery effort. Scope covered skills architecture, role redesign, capability re-skilling, and the change framework that would carry the transformation across all 150+ country member firms.

Action

Tim unified 260,000 professionals across 150+ countries onto a single Finance operating model, against the failure trajectory of the stalled first attempt, by leading with a compelling case for change before introducing methodology and tools, then designing a train-the-trainer propagation framework optimized for adoptability across a mature professional audience. The framework accepted the trade-off that it required less hand-holding, which was the design choice that let it scale across 150+ member firms. The work applied Deloitte’s Business Transformation Methodology, D3 Organization Design framework, ChangeScout adoption analytics, and SAP Activate/RISE delivery methodology against the firm’s internal Finance modernization roadmap.

Result

A unified global Finance operating model across 150+ countries. The transition framework established the foundation for firm growth from $36.8B to $47.6B in revenue across the program window. The recovery preserved the firm’s ability to execute its 2020 strategic vision.
